This Year in Year 1

Welcome to Year 1's class page, here you will find out all the important information you need to know about Year 1. We have a fantastc group of children wo are working extremely hard.

Autumn Term

In English this term we will be learning to write list, labels & captions, non-chronological reports and instructions. We will be closely focusing on making sure our sentences use capital letters and full stops. 

In Maths we wil be working within the number ten. We will; understand numbers to 10, part-whole model, addition and subtraction within ten. Later in the term we will be learning our 2D and 3D shapes and learning our numbers to 20. 

In RE we will be looking at our family and how everyone belongs to the family of God.  We will talk about our experiences in our own families and wonder about the care that our families give use. Finally we will begin to ask questions about the differences in families. 

In geography this term we will be exploring the United Kingdom and the four nations within it. We will be exploring what each nation is famous for and what their capital cities are. 

In science we are learning to group and classify the animals into different animal groups. The groups we will focus on are: amphibians, reptiles, fish , mammals and insects. 

In PE we are improving our fundamental skills. This means we will be improving our throwing and catching skills.

All About Year 1

In Year 1 we are helping the children to find their own way of learning through use of many activities and resources. One of the many important aspects of Year 1 is our reading, it is very important that the children read their books every day as it is one of the most vital skills. 

Homework

Spelling and Maths homework is given on a Monday

Homework is to be handed in on a Friday

It is important that the children practise their spellings every day (15 minutes is more than enough!) which will help he children to become much more confident!

Important Dates

WB 10th June- Phonics testing week. 

Our PE day is a Friday

Uniform

Correct uniform is to be worn for school. P.E. kits should stay in school throughout the week. Note that jewellery is not allowed to be worn in school.
