Family Holidays in Term Time
We understand that family time is important, and holidays are special opportunities to spend time together. However, the law says that parents and carers must get permission from the Head Teacher before taking children out of school during term time.
Parents do not have an automatic right to take children out of school for a holiday. If a child is absent without permission, parents may receive a
Penalty Notice of £80 per parent, per child.
From September 2024, the Government has updated its rules about absences during term time. Schools now have to follow stricter procedures. At St Chad’s RC Primary, we work closely with the Manchester Local Authority Attendance Team, who may take action if absences are unauthorised or happen regularly.
Our school policy is also guided by the Department for Education, Manchester Local Authority Guidance and our School Governors.
